The
Projects

"In my projects with Apexart, Bakonline, and Interior Design Practice, I addressed social issues through architectural research and collaborative efforts to create impactful exhibitions. At Apexart and Bakonline, I focused on socio-political themes, translating complex societal challenges into engaging spatial designs that foster dialogue and awareness. I worked collectively with curators, artists, and architects to ensure that each exhibition aligned with its intended message, utilizing the space effectively.

For the Interior Design Practice project, I managed the complete renovation process of a duplex apartment, from material sourcing to the coordination of worker schedules. I oversaw every phase of the project, ensuring timely completion and quality results. This included developing a comprehensive work plan, organizing labor efficiently, and making necessary adjustments based on ongoing assessments, all while staying aligned with the client’s vision."

Expropriation and Displacement: Spatial Politics Under Capital

2024, video and research materials
The collaborative research project between SB Arch Lab (Gülistan KenanoÄŸlu and ÇaÄŸlar Hanaylı) and Iliada Charalambous explores questions around the instrumentalization of architecture as part of state and capital's apparatus aiding processes of gentrification, disappearance, and transformation of public space either through militaristic interventions or capitalist accumulations. The research is situated in part in Diyarbakir, exploring the transformation of the Sur region in Turkey and partly in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. During Research Interrupted, a video essay exploring the topic from various angles is presented along with a space for gathering where the audience is invited to engage with some of the research materials.

Interior Design Practice

This project encompassed the complete renovation of a duplex apartment, where I managed both the design and construction phases independently. I was responsible for conducting the initial client consultations, understanding their needs, and translating those into a comprehensive design plan. The process began with contract negotiation, where I established clear project terms, timelines, and budgets.

Following this, I developed a detailed work plan that outlined each phase of the renovation, including timelines for material delivery, labor scheduling, and specific design implementations. I handled material sourcing, ensuring quality and budget alignment. I also coordinated the workers’ schedules, making adjustments as necessary to maintain workflow efficiency. Throughout the project, I implemented revisions to adapt to evolving client requirements and unforeseen challenges, ensuring a smooth execution from start to finish. The outcome was a successfully completed renovation that aligned with the client’s vision and enhanced the living space’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.
